Along the riverbank the ground was more slippery than they’d expected.
“Francesco, what are we doing here?” Viola asked. “Haven’t the forensic team already finished their investigations?”
“Yes, but something doesn’t convince me about the reconstruction of the murder. Maybe a new inspection—Careful!” he shouted, just as Viola stepped on a wet stone, losing her balance.
She slipped with a small yelp, and he caught her mid‑fall, a strong arm wrapped firmly around her waist.
“You okay?” he murmured, not letting go.
Viola almost held her breath. They were close. Too close. “Yes… thanks.”
“Be more careful, alright?”
